The D-Link DES-1005D is a five-port 10/100 unmanaged desktop Ethernet switch. All five ports auto-negotiate speed and duplex and support auto MDI/MDI-X, so any port accepts either a straight-through or crossover cable and can serve equally as an uplink or a client port. Being unmanaged it needs no configuration and has no web interface or console: it forwards on learned MAC addresses out of the box. The housing is fanless and passively cooled, which makes it silent and suits desk, shelf and small cabinet placement. Store-and-forward switching with full-duplex operation on every port gives each attached device its own collision domain, the practical gain over the hubs this class of unit replaced.
