The D-Link DES-1008D-E is an eight-port 10/100 unmanaged desktop Ethernet switch from the Express EtherNetwork range. Every port auto-negotiates speed and duplex and supports auto MDI/MDI-X, so cabling type does not matter and any port can act as the uplink. It requires no configuration, forwarding traffic on learned MAC addresses from the moment it is powered, and offers no management interface by design. The case is fanless and silent, intended for desk, shelf or small wall-mounted cabinet use where noise and airflow rule out a rack switch. Full-duplex store-and-forward switching gives each attached device a dedicated collision domain and the full port bandwidth. Power is supplied by an external DC adapter, which is worth noting as the adapter is the usual point of failure on units of this type.
