The EF-Data SMS-301 is a 1:1 modem protection switch, designed as a direct replacement for EF-Data’s earlier SMS-651B unit, automatically switching a satellite link from a failed primary modem to a standby backup to maintain continuity. It monitors alarm and status outputs from the connected modem pair and performs a fast, transparent changeover on fault detection, with manual override for maintenance and testing, and is built for rack mounting alongside the protected modems. As with other EF-Data SMS-series switches, it is a standard fixture in mission-critical teleport, VSAT hub and broadcast satellite installations where baseband-side redundancy is required alongside RF chain protection.
