It presents a 140 Mbit/s PDH or 155 Mbit/s STM-1 aggregate link into the shelf, and its own marking confirms compatibility across the SMA-1, SMA-4 and SMA-16 node variants within the Series 3.1 hardware generation.

Marconi’s SMA family, inherited from GPT and Plessey, is a subrack of plug-in units: line termination units at 2, 34, 45 and 140/155 Mbit/s, optical STM interfaces, a system controller, alarm cards and power feeds.
