Netgear GSM7224R: ProSafe 24-port gigabit managed switch with 4 shared SFP slots.

The Netgear GSM7224R is a ProSafe 24 port gigabit managed switch with four shared SFP slots for fibre uplinks. All 24 ports run 10/100/1000 with auto-negotiation, and four of them share a cage with an SFP so an optical module can take the place of the copper port where the run is too long for twisted pair.

Management is a full Layer 2 feature set: 802.1Q VLANs, spanning tree including the rapid and multiple variants, static link aggregation, quality of service queuing, access control lists, IGMP snooping and SNMP, administered from a web interface or a command line over console or telnet.

The GSM7000 family was Netgear’s gigabit answer to the earlier Fast Ethernet FSM range and appeared widely in server rooms and mid-sized office cores.
