Netgear FSM750S: ProSafe 48-port 10/100 managed stackable switch with 2 gigabit GBIC ports.

The Netgear FSM750S is a ProSafe 48 port 10/100 managed stackable switch fitted with two gigabit ports that accept GBIC modules, Netgear’s own AGM721F 1000BASE-SX being the usual fibre option.

Managed features run to 802.1Q VLANs, spanning tree, port trunking, quality of service, port mirroring, IGMP snooping and SNMP, configured from a browser or a console session, and stacking lets several units share one management address. The GBIC uplinks are the important part of the design: 48 ports of 10/100 aggregate to more than a single Fast Ethernet link can carry, and the fibre option also solves the distance problem between a wiring closet and a comms room.

Keeping a large Fast Ethernet edge on stackable units rather than a chassis was the economical route for sites that never needed gigabit to the desk.
