Netgear FS750T: ProSafe 48-port 10/100 smart switch with 2 gigabit ports.

The Netgear FS750T is a ProSafe smart switch offering 48 Fast Ethernet ports and two gigabit ports, aimed at wiring closets that need managed behaviour without the cost or the learning curve of a fully managed switch.

The smart switch feature set covers 802.1Q VLANs, port based quality of service, link aggregation, port mirroring and IGMP snooping, all set from a browser. The two gigabit ports carry the aggregated traffic of the Fast Ethernet group back to a core switch or a server, which is what stops a 48 port edge device becoming a bottleneck. It occupies 1U of rack space.

Switches at this port density remain in use where the endpoints are 10/100 devices such as printers, telephones and control equipment, and replacing them wholesale would buy nothing.
