The IBM 80P4610 is a 4-slot Ultra320 SCSI disk drive backplane, CCIN 28D2, for IBM’s 7029-6C3, 7029-6E3, 9111-520, 9113-275 and 9117-52A pSeries and p5 systems. It sits inside the system’s disk cage and provides the four hot-swap SCSI bays and the internal wiring that lets up to four Ultra320 SCSI drives be added or replaced without powering the system down, connecting back to the system’s onboard or add-in Ultra320 SCSI controller.

Systems built around this backplane remain in service across a number of established Unix/AIX environments, and a genuine backplane is the standard way to restore hot-swap disk capacity after a backplane-level fault.
