The Huawei TN120BU101 is an OBU C-band optical booster unit for the OptiX OSN 6800 and OSN 8800 WDM platforms, rated for input down to -4 dBm. It is the lower variant of the booster pair in this family, alongside the TN120BU103.

A booster is fitted at the transmit end of a span, directly after the multiplexer, and raises the level of the whole C-band multiplex before it is launched into the outside fibre. Because it works on an already strong signal, it is selected on the output power it can deliver rather than on noise figure, which is the criterion that governs preamplifiers at the receive end.
