The Huawei TN120BU103 is an OBU C-band optical booster unit for the OptiX OSN 6800 and OSN 8800 WDM platforms, with gain of around 23 dB. A booster sits at the transmit end of a span, immediately after the multiplexer, and lifts the combined output power of the whole C-band multiplex before it enters the outside fibre.

That position is what distinguishes it from the other amplifiers in the family. A booster is specified by the output power it can reach rather than by its noise figure, because it is working on a strong signal and the job is to launch as much power as the fibre will take without provoking non-linear effects. A preamplifier at the far end faces the opposite problem and is chosen on noise performance instead.
