The D-Link DEM-410X is a single-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet XFP expansion module that adds one 10GbE uplink to a D-Link switch. It installs in the switch’s optional module slot and accepts an XFP transceiver chosen to suit the link, so the same module serves a short multimode run inside a rack or a long single-mode run between buildings depending on the optic fitted. Modules of this type were the standard way to give a Gigabit access switch a 10 Gigabit uplink to the distribution layer without replacing the switch itself, which kept the upgrade path affordable as backbone speeds rose. The transceiver is ordered separately. The module is intended for D-Link switches of the DGS-3600 and DXS generation that carry the matching expansion slot.
