The Cisco GSR6-SFC is a Switch Fabric Card for the Cisco 12406 GSR (Gigabit Switch Router), part of the 10-Gbps switch fabric shared with the chassis’s Clock and Scheduler Card (GSR6-CSC). Each Switch Fabric Card provides a full-duplex 10Gbps connection to every line card in the chassis.

The 12406’s fabric can hold multiple SFCs installed in dedicated half-width slots, hot-swappable so a card can be removed and replaced without disrupting the router’s operation or requiring a power-down. Cisco’s 12000-series GSR platform was a core carrier-grade router range through the 2000s, and the 12406 6-slot chassis remains in service on some established service-provider networks. A genuine fabric card is the standard way to restore full switching capacity after a card failure.
