The Cisco WS-SVC-NAM-1 is a Catalyst 6500-series Network Analysis Module (NAM-1), a service module that plugs directly into the chassis and provides embedded traffic monitoring, RMON2 statistics and application-level visibility without needing an external probe. It taps traffic from the switch’s backplane, so it can monitor VLANs and ports across the chassis directly rather than relying on a mirrored SPAN port fed to an external analyser.

NAM-1 was Cisco’s first-generation network analysis service module for the Catalyst 6500 platform, later followed by NAM-2 and subsequent hardware with greater processing capacity.
