The Cisco DS-C9124-K9 is a Cisco MDS 9124 multilayer Fibre Channel fabric switch, a fixed 1RU chassis from the MDS 9100 series built for SAN environments. It ships with 8 active 4Gbps Fibre Channel ports and scales up to the full 24 by way of Cisco’s On-Demand Port Activation licensing, added in 8-port increments as a site’s storage-network needs grow, rather than as a fully populated 24-port unit out of the box. This licensed-port model lets a smaller SAN deployment start on a lower-cost base configuration and expand fabric capacity later without a hardware swap. It remains a common fixed-configuration fabric switch in established smaller SAN deployments.
