The Cisco WS-X4597-E is a fan tray for the Cisco Catalyst 4507R-E chassis, the enhanced (E-series) 7-slot variant of the Catalyst 4500 modular switch family. Cooling on the 4507R-E depends on this tray drawing air through the chassis past the supervisor engines and line cards, so a failed or missing fan tray raises internal operating temperatures across every module installed, not just the tray itself, and is a common cause of unexplained line-card faults on ageing 4500 deployments.
