The Cisco WS-X5011 (Cisco part number 73-1413) is a Catalyst 5000 Ethernet switching module providing 12 ports of Ethernet switching over multimode fibre, fitted into a Supervisor-managed Catalyst 5000/5500 chassis to extend fibre-connected port density. It runs alongside copper Ethernet, FDDI and other Catalyst 5000-family line cards in the same chassis, giving network designers a mix of copper and fibre interfaces for connecting servers, uplinks and cross-building fibre runs. As with other Catalyst 5000 modules, it requires a compatible Supervisor Engine fitted in the chassis to operate. Catalyst 5000 switches of this generation remain in service in a number of established legacy networks, and a genuine spare such as this restores fibre port capacity after a card failure.
