The IBM 2005B16 is an IBM TotalStorage SAN16B-2 Fibre Channel fabric switch, a 16-port 2Gbps SAN switch built on Brocade’s switching platform and sold under IBM’s own TotalStorage part numbering as part of the long-standing IBM/Brocade OEM relationship for SAN fabric hardware. The switch provides Fibre Channel fabric connectivity between servers and storage arrays in a SAN, supporting zoning, fabric services and interoperability with other Brocade-derived switches from IBM, HP and Brocade’s own branded range. SAN16B-2 switches of this generation remain in service in smaller and legacy SAN fabrics, particularly where a customer is standardised on a specific firmware level or is maintaining an existing fabric rather than migrating to newer 8/16/32Gbps hardware. A genuine replacement switch is the standard fix for a faulted unit or for adding fabric ports without disrupting an established SAN design.
