Marconi 131-8978/51: quad 140/155Mbit/s tributary interface module for Marconi MSH SDH systems.

The Marconi 131-8978/51 is an interface module for four 140/155 Mbit/s tributaries, part of Marconi’s MSH family of SDH digital cross-connects and multiplexers. It presents four tributary circuits, switchable between the 140 Mbit/s PDH rate and the 155 Mbit/s SDH STM-1 rate, into the shelf’s matrix on a single card.

The MSH range (MSH64C, MSH80, MSH84 and MSH86 among the variants) is built around a switching matrix surrounded by tributary and aggregate interface cards, with quad tributary interfaces such as this one giving efficient port density for 140/155 Mbit/s circuits. Marconi’s 2006 collapse ended factory support, so the installed base is maintained from secondary-market spares.
