The Marconi 1HAM60659AAF is a dual-rate LTU 34/45 Mbit/s line termination unit, unbalanced coaxial, for Marconi’s SMA range of SDH add/drop multiplexers. It presents a PDH tributary circuit at either the 34 Mbit/s (E3) or 45 Mbit/s (DS3) rate into the SMA shelf, giving the operator a single card that covers both common tributary rates on unbalanced 75 ohm cabling.

Marconi’s SMA family, inherited from GPT and Plessey, was the SDH multiplexer platform that carried a large share of the UK synchronous transmission network from the 1990s onward. An SMA node is a subrack of plug-in units: line termination units at 2, 34, 45 and 140/155 Mbit/s, optical STM-1 and STM-16 interfaces, a system controller, alarm cards and power feeds. Marconi’s 2006 collapse ended factory support, so every SMA site still in service is maintained from secondary-market spares.
