The Marconi 218-0123-000 is a 2-port 1000Base-SX Gigabit Ethernet interface module for the Marconi (Ericsson-Marconi) ESR-5000/6000 routing switch platform, providing two multimode fibre uplinks (850nm, up to 550m reach) into the chassis alongside the platform’s Series II Supervisor card and its 10/100Base-TX and ATM interface modules. It shares its numbering block with the sibling 4-port variant (218-0107-000) and the platform’s 24-port 10/100Base-TX and ATM OC-3/OC-12 modules. ESR-5000/6000 Series II chassis, sold under the Ericsson-Marconi brand, remain deployed at sites running legacy Marconi routing infrastructure that has not yet been replaced, and a spare Gigabit uplink module lets an operator restore a failed port or add fibre capacity without touching the rest of the chassis.
