Marconi 218-0012-000 ESR/ESX routing switches and SDH/PDH transmission systems Router Module

The Marconi 218-0012-000 is a Series II Supervisor module for the Marconi (Ericsson-Marconi) ESR-5000/6000 routing switch platform, the system control and management card that runs switch fabric arbitration, system diagnostics and chassis-wide configuration for the router. It shares its designation with the closely related 219-0012-000 SII Supervisor card and slots into the same ESR-5000 or ESR-6000 chassis alongside the platform’s 10/100Base-TX, 1000Base-SX and ATM OC-3/OC-12 port modules. The ESR-5000/6000 Series II line was sold under the Ericsson-Marconi brand toward the end of Marconi’s independent life, and installations built on this platform remain in service where the routing hardware has not yet been migrated to newer equipment. A supervisor failure takes down the whole chassis rather than a single port, so keeping a spare on hand is standard practice for sites still running this platform.
