The Emulex LPe11000-E is a single port 4 Gbit/s Fibre Channel host bus adapter on PCI Express, from the LightPulse LPe11000 series. It negotiates at 4, 2 or 1 Gbit/s and presents one optical port, and the E ending marks the EMC variant carrying EMC qualified firmware, which is what allows an EMC array and PowerPath to accept it as a supported adapter rather than an unknown card.

The LPe11000 was the PCI Express successor to the PCI-X LP11000 and shares the same driver stack, so moving from one to the other is usually a hardware swap rather than a software change. Where a server needs two independent paths, two of these in separate slots gives better fault isolation than a single dual port card.
