The Marconi 1HAM60660ABT is a 45 Mbit/s line termination unit, an unbalanced LTU45. Line termination units are the boards that present a tributary circuit to the multiplexer, and this one handles the 45 Mbit/s DS3 rate on unbalanced coaxial cabling.

Marconi’s SMA range, inherited from GPT and Plessey, was the SDH multiplexer family that carried a large share of the UK network through the 1990s and beyond. An SMA node is a subrack of plug-in units: line termination units at 2, 34, 45 and 140 or 155 Mbit/s, optical STM-1 and STM-16 interfaces, a system controller, alarm and management cards and the power feeds. Marconi’s collapse in 2006 ended factory support, so every remaining site runs on secondary market stock.
