The Comtech CDM-550 is an SCPC satellite modem operating at a 70MHz IF, supporting data rates from 2.4kbps up to 2048kbps for point-to-point and remote communications links over satellite. Part of Comtech’s long-running CDM series, it provides configurable modulation and forward error correction options and was widely used for low to medium rate SCPC circuits including remote site connectivity, SCADA, voice and low-rate data over satellite, sitting in the earth station RF chain between the baseband/data interface and the upconverter/downconverter. The CDM-550 has a long service history in commercial, government and remote/military communications applications thanks to its flexibility across a wide data rate range and IESS-compliant operation.
