The Comtech SDM-300 is a satellite modem operating at a 70MHz IF, providing QPSK modulation with Viterbi forward error correction for data rates up to 512kbps. Part of Comtech’s long-running SDM series of satellite data modems, it was widely deployed for SCPC point-to-point links, VSAT hub connections and low to medium rate data circuits over satellite. The unit sits at the heart of the earth station RF chain, converting between baseband/data interfaces and the modulated 70MHz IF signal passed to the upconverter, and provides link status monitoring and configuration via front panel and remote interfaces. Comtech SDM-series modems have a long service history in commercial, government and remote communications applications and remain in use as spares for legacy SCPC links.
