The Enterasys N5-SYSTEM-R is a Matrix N5 enterprise switch chassis, the smaller of the two Matrix N-Series systems. It provides five expansion slots for Enterasys Matrix DFE-Gold and DFE-Platinum series switch modules, which operate together as a single logical switch under one system IP address once installed.

Power comes from two system power supply bays (PS1/PS2), which take 7C205-1 1200W supplies, plus four additional bays (POE1 through POE4) for optional N-POE-1200W modules that add IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet capacity across the installed DFE modules. This lets the same chassis run PoE endpoints such as VoIP handsets, wireless access points and IP cameras alongside standard switching.
