The Marconi 131-8459/01 is a first stage unit for Marconi’s MSH switching matrix, part of Marconi’s MSH family of SDH digital cross-connects and multiplexers. The MSH matrix is built in stages, and this card carries out the first stage of virtual-container cross-connection before traffic passes to the later stages of the switch fabric.

The MSH range (MSH64C, MSH80, MSH84 and MSH86 among the variants) is built around a switching matrix surrounded by tributary and aggregate interface cards. The matrix is the heart of the node, cross connecting virtual containers between every port in the shelf, and matrix cards are issued in stages and types that reflect capacity and generation. Marconi’s 2006 collapse ended factory support, so the installed base is maintained from held spares.
