MRV XFP-10GD-SX: 10 Gigabit XFP, 850 nm multimode, 300 m, with digital diagnostics; 10GbE or 10G Fibre Channel.

The MRV XFP-10GD-SX is a 10 Gigabit XFP transceiver for multimode fibre, using an 850 nm source with a reach of 300 metres and supporting digital diagnostic monitoring. It carries either 10 Gigabit Ethernet or 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel, which makes it usable both on switch uplinks and on storage fabric ports.

Short reach multimode optics of this type are the normal choice inside a building or a single data centre, where the fibre run is short and the cost of single-mode optics is not justified. The XFP form factor predates SFP+ and is found on MRV’s LambdaDriver transponders and OptiSwitch platforms of that generation, so a replacement has to match the cage as well as the wavelength.
