The Emulex LP11000-M4 is a single port 4 Gbit/s Fibre Channel host bus adapter on a PCI-X interface. The M4 ending denotes the multimode 4 Gbit/s optics fitted, and the card negotiates down to 2 or 1 Gbit/s for attachment to earlier fabric switches.

It is the PCI-X member of the LP11000 family, the PCI Express equivalent being the LPe11000, and the two share a common driver, so the choice between them is dictated by the slot available in the server rather than by the software. Cards of this generation remain in service in storage attached servers that have not been through a platform refresh, and a like for like replacement avoids requalifying the driver and multipathing stack.
