The Polycom 2201-21674-001 is the subwoofer unit for the VSX 7000 video conferencing system. It handles the low frequency part of the room audio that the codec own speakers cannot reproduce, which in practice is what makes speech from the far end sound natural rather than thin across a boardroom.

The subwoofer connects to the VSX codec and is powered from the mains, sitting on the floor out of sight rather than on the table. It is specific to the VSX generation and does not carry over to the later HDX or Group series systems, so it should be matched to the codec already installed.
