Enterasys EPIM100-S2MFX Matrix/S-Series/X-Series networking Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The Enterasys EPIM100-S2MFX is a two-port 100Base-FX expansion module with SC connectors, providing Fast Ethernet connections over multimode fibre. It fits the expansion slot of a host switch and converts that capacity into a pair of optical ports, used where the uplink has to run further than the 100 metre limit that constrains twisted pair or where the path crosses between buildings. Two ports allow a resilient pair of uplinks to separate distribution switches, so the loss of one fibre path or one upstream switch does not isolate the unit. SC connectors are the square push-fit type that became standard for Fast Ethernet fibre, distinguishing this module from the earlier ST bayonet convention, and cable assemblies must match. Cabletron Systems renamed its enterprise arm Enterasys in 2001, and Extreme Networks acquired the business in 2013.
