The Enterasys 1G587-09 is a Matrix E1 Gigabit Distribution Switch (GDS) with six mini-GBIC (SFP) front-panel ports and three additional expansion slots for Enterasys option modules. It is a standalone switching chassis intended to sit at the Gigabit distribution layer of a Matrix E1 network.

The switch offers 24 Gbps of switching bandwidth and 16 Mpps of routing throughput, with 64 MB of DRAM and 8 MB of flash memory. Its MAC address table holds up to 64,000 entries and it supports up to 4,094 VLANs, operating in store-and-forward mode across all ports.
