The Enterasys 6G306-06 is a six port Gigabit Ethernet switching module for the SmartSwitch 6000 and Matrix E7 chassis. Rather than fixed optics, each of the six ports takes a Gigabit Ethernet Port Interface Module, so one card can be populated for multimode or single mode fibre in any combination and changed later without replacing the module itself. The GPIMs are hot swappable.

The card draws power and backplane connectivity from the chassis it sits in, either the 6C105 SmartSwitch 6000 or the 6C107 Matrix E7, and was sold to bring Gigabit uplinks into an enterprise backbone built on those shelves. Cabletron Systems renamed its enterprise networking arm Enterasys in 2001, and Extreme Networks acquired Enterasys in 2013. Both chassis are long out of manufacturer support and are kept running from held stock. Tech-Star is UK based and ships worldwide.
