The Enterasys VHSIM-G6 is a two port Gigabit Ethernet Very High Speed Interface Module for the SmartSwitch 6000 and 2000 platforms. Its two ports are GPIM cages, taking hot swappable Gigabit Ethernet Port Interface Modules so the fibre or copper media can be changed while the host is powered.

The module has two operating modes. The default is redundancy, in which one port is active and the other stands by, with failover triggered by loss of link and GPIM 1 active by default; the alternative brings both ports into use. Redundancy as the shipped default is the giveaway that these were fitted on backbone uplinks where a broken fibre had to be survivable.

Cabletron Systems built the SmartSwitch range, Enterasys Networks took it on at the 2001 renaming, and Extreme Networks acquired the company in 2013.
