The Enterasys 2H258-17R is a SmartSwitch 2200 workgroup switch fitted with 16 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet ports on MT-RJ connectors, plus a high speed uplink slot.

An all fibre edge switch is an unusual thing to find now, and it exists because MT-RJ briefly made fibre to the desk affordable: the connector is about the width of an RJ45 and holds both strands, so port density on a switch face matched copper. Sites that took that route, typically for electrical isolation or for runs too long for copper, still need a like for like replacement rather than a media conversion exercise. The copper equivalent in the same family is the 2H252-25R.

The SmartSwitch 2200 was a Cabletron Systems product, carried forward by Enterasys Networks from 2001 and by Extreme Networks after the 2013 acquisition.
