The Enterasys SSR-SF-16 is a switching fabric card for the SmartSwitch Router 8000 and 8600 chassis, the platform later sold as the X-Pedition 8000 and 8600. The fabric card is the shared switching core of the shelf: line cards pass traffic to it rather than directly to each other, so its capacity sets the aggregate forwarding rate of the whole chassis.

The 8600 supports a second fabric card for redundancy, which is how this part is usually listed, and a failed fabric can be replaced without disturbing the line cards around it. X-Pedition was a rename of the SmartSwitch Router line rather than a change of company. The line ran from Cabletron Systems to Enterasys in 2001 and on to Extreme Networks, which bought Enterasys in 2013. Tech-Star holds this line in the UK and ships internationally.
