Enterasys 1G-2MGBIC: Matrix E1 expansion module with two mini-GBIC slots.

The Enterasys 1G-2MGBIC is a two slot mini-GBIC expansion module for the Matrix E1 workgroup switches, adding a pair of SFP cages to the host unit.

Each cage takes an Enterasys mini-GBIC such as the multimode MGBIC-LC03 or the single mode MGBIC-LC09, so a copper edge switch gains fibre uplinks without being replaced. Modules of this kind are how the Matrix E1 range stayed useful as sites moved their risers from copper to fibre. Fit the optic to the distance: multimode inside one building, single mode where the link crosses a site.

The Matrix line began at Cabletron Systems, passed to Enterasys Networks when the enterprise business was renamed in 2001, and ended up with Extreme Networks in 2013.
