The Cabletron TRMIM-12 is a twelve-port active Token Ring media interface module for the Cabletron MMAC Multi Media Access Center chassis, providing twelve twisted-pair lobe attachments from a single chassis slot. Each port supports a station lobe run of up to 200 metres, and the module runs at either 4 Mbps or 16 Mbps to match the rest of the ring. Because the ports are active rather than passive, the module re-times the signal and holds down the jitter build-up that limits passive lobe attachment, which is what allows rings built on this hardware to carry up to 150 stations. It sits alongside Ethernet and FDDI modules in the same MMAC chassis, so a site running mixed media could concentrate all of it into one managed enclosure rather than maintaining separate hubs per topology. Ownership of this product line moved from Cabletron to Enterasys Networks in 2001 and on to Extreme Networks in 2013.
