Cabletron MT8-MIM MMAC-Plus / SmartSwitch Router (SSR) networking Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The Cabletron MT8-MIM is an eight-port multiport transceiver module in the MIM (Media Interface Module) form factor, built to slot into a Cabletron MMAC Multi Media Access Center chassis. It provides eight IEEE 802.3 transceiver ports from a single chassis position, taking the place of eight separately mounted external transceivers and the drop cables that would otherwise be needed to attach devices to a thick or thin Ethernet segment. Concentrating those attachments into one chassis slot simplified wiring-closet cabling and made port status visible from the chassis rather than at each individual transceiver. The MMAC platform accepted Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI interface modules side by side in the same enclosure, which is why mixed-media sites standardised on it. Cabletron’s enterprise networking arm was renamed Enterasys Networks in 2001, and Enterasys was acquired by Extreme Networks in 2013. Tech-Star (UK-based, shipped worldwide) supplies MMAC modules for sites keeping this generation of chassis in service. Contact our sales team to confirm chassis compatibility and current availability.
