Cabletron SSR-GLX29-02 MMAC-Plus / SmartSwitch Router (SSR) networking Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The Cabletron SSR-GLX29-02 is a two port Gigabit Ethernet line card for the SmartSwitch Router chassis, presenting 1000BASE-LX on SC connectors. LX is the long wavelength optic, which is what allows it to run over single mode fibre for building to building links as well as over multimode with the appropriate conditioning, where the short wavelength SX cards are multimode only.

The card is quoted as supporting 256,000 flows, a figure that matters on this platform because the SmartSwitch Router forwards on a flow basis in hardware rather than routing packet by packet in software, so flow table capacity sets how many concurrent conversations the card can accelerate. The chassis was later sold as the X-Pedition under the same design. Cabletron Systems renamed its enterprise arm Enterasys in 2001, and Extreme Networks acquired Enterasys in 2013. Tech-Star holds this line in the UK and ships internationally.
