Cabletron CSIWS-A MMAC-Plus / SmartSwitch Router (SSR) networking Wireless Access Point Image 1

RoamAbout wireless LAN access point taking a CSILD-AB-128 PCMCIA radio card.

The Cabletron CSIWS-A is a RoamAbout wireless LAN access point, from the earlier generation of the Cabletron wireless range. Rather than carrying a fixed radio, the unit takes a PCMCIA wireless card, in this case the CSILD-AB-128, so the radio could be changed as wireless standards moved on without replacing the access point body.

That card is a separate item and an access point supplied without one will not transmit. The RoamAbout range predates the 802.11 security work most sites now assume, so these units are normally bought to keep an existing installation running or for equipment that cannot be moved to a modern access point. Cabletron Systems renamed its enterprise networking arm Enterasys in 2001, and Extreme Networks acquired Enterasys in 2013. Tech-Star is UK based and ships worldwide.
