Enterasys HSIM-FE6: Fast Ethernet High Speed Interface Module with two FEPIM slots and six 10/100 ports.

The Enterasys HSIM-FE6 is a Fast Ethernet High Speed Interface Module carrying two FEPIM slots, into which Fast Ethernet Port Interface Modules are fitted, and supporting six 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports in total.

High Speed Interface Modules plug into the host slot on SmartSwitch chassis modules and standalone units, extending them with an uplink or a set of additional ports without consuming a full chassis slot. The FEPIM approach means the media is chosen separately from the module itself: copper, multimode fibre or single mode, according to which port interface modules are fitted. That flexibility is why these are still specified as spares, since a working chassis can be re-mediated rather than replaced.

The SmartSwitch line was a Cabletron Systems design, sold under the Enterasys Networks name from 2001 and inherited by Extreme Networks in 2013.
