The Cabletron FPIM-01 is a fibre port interface module from the PIM family, providing a single fibre Ethernet attachment on a host card or chassis that accepts these modules. The interface module system is what let Cabletron sell one switch, hub or router card and leave the media choice to the installation: the same bay takes twisted pair, coaxial, AUI or fibre modules, and changing the module changes the port type without touching the card behind it.

A fibre module was normally chosen for a riser or inter building link where distance or electrical isolation ruled out copper. Modules in this family are matched to the generation of the host, so the host card should be confirmed before ordering. Ownership ran from Cabletron Systems to Enterasys in 2001 and then to Extreme Networks, which bought Enterasys in 2013. Supplied by Tech-Star from the UK with worldwide shipping.
