MMAC Ethernet Management Module: i960 based bridge and router, three backplane channels, two BRIM and two EPIM slots.
The Cabletron EMM-E6 is an Ethernet Management Module for the MMAC modular hub, combining management, bridging and routing on one card around an i960 processor. It attaches to the three internal channels of the MMAC backplane, which is what allows a single chassis to be partitioned into separate Ethernet segments and then bridged or routed between them rather than acting as one large collision domain.
Two BRIM slots take bridge and router interface modules for WAN and other attachments, and two EPIM slots take Ethernet port interface modules so the uplink media can be chosen as copper, fibre or AUI. In practice the EMM-E6 is what turned an MMAC from a hub into a managed multi segment device. The line ran from Cabletron Systems to Enterasys in 2001 and on to Extreme Networks in 2013. Tech-Star holds this line in the UK and ships internationally.
