The Enterasys ER16-AC is the AC power supply for the X-Pedition ER16 switch router chassis. The ER16 requires a minimum of two of these to run a populated chassis, with three or four fitted where power redundancy is part of the design.

Redundant power is one of the three redundancy features the ER16 was built around, alongside duplicated switch fabric and control modules, which is what qualified it for round the clock backbone duty. A chassis running at its minimum supply count has no margin, so a failed unit takes capacity with it: a spare on the shelf is the difference between a hot swap and an outage. Confirm how many supplies your chassis currently holds before ordering.

The ER16 arrived with the Cabletron SmartSwitch Router line, became X-Pedition under Enterasys Networks in 2001, and passed to Extreme Networks in 2013.
