Cabletron 9E133-36 MMAC-Plus / SmartSwitch Router (SSR) networking Switch / Carrier Ethernet Line Card

The Cabletron 9E133-36 is an Ethernet module for the MMAC-Plus chassis. It provides three separate twelve port MicroLANs, giving 36 10BASE-T ports on one module with the ports divided into three independent segments rather than one shared collision domain. Splitting a module into MicroLANs was Cabletron’s way of getting segmentation out of a hub chassis before switching to the desktop became affordable.

Cabletron’s MMAC-Plus was a modular chassis hub and later switch, and one of the products that made high density 10BASE-T affordable in the early 1990s. Modules fit a common backplane and provide banks of ports, with management supplied by a dedicated module rather than by each card. Cabletron split into Enterasys and Riverstone in 2001 and this generation of hardware has been out of support ever since.
