Adaptive Broadband

Adaptive Broadband was the name California Microwave, a Sunnyvale, California maker of microwave and satellite communications equipment, took in April 1999 after selling its government business to Northrop Grumman. Its satellite products came from its EF Data division in Tempe, Arizona, which is why some EF Data designs carry the Adaptive Broadband name. The SDM-2020 was one of these, a variable-rate digital satellite modulator and demodulator for broadcast video and high-speed data. Adaptive Broadband sold EF Data to Comtech in 2000, where it became Comtech EF Data, and the rest of the company filed for Chapter 11 protection in July 2001. Tech-Star supplies new and refurbished Adaptive Broadband hardware including SDM-2020 series satellite modulators and demodulators. Refurbished units remain in demand because the SDM-2020 is a long-discontinued legacy product, so installed links rely on existing stock.
