McAfee

McAfee is an American security software company founded in 1987 by John McAfee and best known for its anti-virus software. It traded as Network Associates from 1997 to 2004, and in 2003 it bought IntruVert Networks, whose IntruShield intrusion prevention sensors became the basis of the McAfee Network Security Platform. Intel agreed to buy McAfee in 2010 and ran it as Intel Security until it became independent again in 2017. In 2021 the enterprise business, including the network security range, was sold to Symphony Technology Group and combined with FireEye to form Trellix in January 2022, while McAfee continued as a consumer security company.
