Ortel

Ortel was founded in California in 1980 and built its reputation on semiconductor lasers and linear fibre optics, the technology that carries radio frequency signals over fibre rather than copper. Its lasers and RF over fibre links were deployed in cable television headends, satellite earth stations, mobile antenna sites and military systems. Lucent Technologies acquired Ortel in 2000, the line passed to Agere Systems when Lucent separated its components business, and EMCORE took it on in 2003 and still sells RF over fibre under the Ortel name.
