MGE

MGE UPS Systems was a French maker of uninterruptible power supplies based near Grenoble. It grew out of the UPS business of Merlin Gerin, the Grenoble electrical engineering firm founded in 1920, and became a separate company in 1996. Its range ran from small office units to large capacity systems for data centres, along with power protection products such as the Pulsar transfer switches, which move a load between two independent supplies. Schneider Electric took full ownership in 2004, and in 2007 the business was divided, with the large systems joining APC as APC-MGE and the small systems business sold to Eaton. Tech-Star supplies new and refurbished MGE hardware including rack mounted automatic transfer switches for single corded equipment. Refurbished MGE units remain in demand because many are still installed in racks and equipment rooms, and a like for like replacement avoids reworking the power arrangement around them.
